Maximum Rock N Roll #374 July 2014
OK, this one's fucking great. Mr. DINOSAUR is a co-conspirator with just about every Atlanta punk or hardcore band of note for the last decade. This EP is his demo tape emblazoned on vinyl and it's completely juvenile punk that's musically and sonically wise in spite of the surrounding air of idiocy. Comparable to a lighter GG KING ( who is also in tow here ), there's mangled thrash and dark punk bullshit in every corner of this record. There's no low point and at least three high points worthy of being mentioned here, so i'll just keep it all a surprise and suggest that those out there in Readerville with a brain buy this immediately.

One Atlanta Mess-Around story of note was the April 25 live debut of Ryan Dinosaur, the solo musical outlet of Ryan Bell (Bukkake Boys, G.G. King, co-owner of Scavenger of Death Records). The Friday afternoon show at 529 also doubled as Bell's 7-inch release party. Bell was joined on stage by former Bukkake Boys drummer Corey Long and Scavenger of Death label mates includingCL music intern Kelly Stroup (Manic, Ralph), and Mike Koechlin and Brannon Greene of Predator.

Ryan Dinosaur started out in 2010 as a demo tape on Scavenger of Death that was limited to only 100 copies. To commemorate the debut show, local imprint No Breaks released a 7-inch, with a press run of just 200. Though this is a seriously good Atlanta hardcore release, Bell likely had a laugh dreaming up lyrics inspired by snacks, cats, and Frodo's journey through Mordor. Don't fret if you're not overly familiar with Bell's literary and esoteric influences, as the lyric sheet has handy footnotes.

WRITE UP VIA GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS
Hey folks! NO BREAKS Records has pressed the Ryan Dinosaur demo onto a 7" just in time for their much-anticipated upcoming appearance at the Atlanta Messaround. Hear the band that made one neighbor remark "I can't understand what you're saying," and be sure not to miss what is sure to be a legendary set when RD takes the stage a 529 later this month. The hype and general hubbub surrounding Ryan Dinosaur's first live show even has one aunt asking "when you play your concerts, do you play originals?"
